Forum access by smartphone

The forum can now recognise whether you are using a smartphone or pc and load the appropriate version of the site - its now very easy to post while on the move. It seems to be running pretty well with just a few niggling problems concerning images but hopefully these can be sorted in the near future.
Let me know if you experience any problems.

Apple Aperture

I’ve just got myself a 2.3 dual processor G5 PowerMac after my MacBook Pro recently gave up the ghost. Its a great improvement for handling images. In the past I’ve just used Photoshop elements and Gimp to edit images and tended to file in an undisciplined, ad hoc manner. I’ve installed Apples Aperture v2.1 and I’m aiming to get to grips with it over the winter ready for the new season. I know that v3 is better but as it runs on intel Macs only its not an option.
There are plenty of tutorials around but I’d be interested in hearing from any Aperture users about their typical workflows and experiences.

Forum (in)activity

I've recently had a number of things to attend to and I've had no time at all for either my website or the forum. This has also been compounded by the sudden death of my faithful MacBookPro! Of course everything was backed up

Anyway the forum has ground to a halt, although a number of new members have registered. Its going to need something of a push to get it going. Its not helped by the fact that the racing season has largely finished.

In the absence of any racing I've got a number of projects to complete over the winter months:

I've got a Filmtools in-car mount for my camera, a wireless remote switch and a few ideas to try out which I will share (whether they work or not) on the forum.

I'm currently using an old, underpowered laptop - I need to replace my dead MacBook and look at suitable software for next year. I'll probably go for an PowerMac G5 but I will be looking for advice and opinions on software.

I also intend to make the forum accessible by smartphone.

I will post the progress of these mini projects in the relevant forums and see if we can kickstart the forum, but I'll need some help. If you have just registered please introduce yourself and don't forget that you you have the option to enter your location on the usermap, reached by the link on the bottom righthand side of each page.

Angelsey Race Circuit

Angelsey Race Circuit has to be the most photographer friendly circuit in the UK. I've just had a short break in Angelsey and took the opportunity to visit the track for the Wirral 100 Club meeting. Surprisingly good weather (for the time of year) and excellent racing. Its really easy to get close to the action and the scenery is fantastic although I imagine on a cold day you could really suffer! Anyway a few pics ......

Found this halfway done the BBC's Formula 1 home page called "Your Classic Grand Prix" here's a direct link to the page.

contains long highlights on Iplayer of 1982 Detroit Grand Prix and 1985 San Marino race but there are loads more listed at the bottom of the page and it looks like more will be added.

thought some of you guys on here would love this. If you only watch one bit watch the opening credits of detroit, the deep bass of the original theme tune and the acorn electron graphics. quality

Huge crash Megane Cup

Found this clip of a spectacular crash at Silverstone in the Megane Cup. They really don't come bigger than this and the driver, Caroline Grifnée is really lucky to be alive. Good camera action by CelticandProud.

New Driving Game

Not had a driving game on the Xbox 360 for a while. The last were Need for Speed Undercover and Burnout Paradise. Looking for something new but not sure what's any good. I've been tempted by Need for Speed: Shift as it looks good, its proper driving and racing on real tracks but also lets you modify your car like the older NFS games.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Recently finished rebuilding this VFR400 (NC24) which I bought as a wreck. Very pleased with the paint scheme, its based on an endurance racer from the Japanese domestic series in the late 90's. It needs an MOT but I've only just discovered that after running for 10 minutes or so the engine dies and it won't restart for a while. I strongly suspect that its fuel starvation but I can't figure out why - I guess the tap may be the culprit and my next job is to check it out.

Hopefully its a simple job and I can get a few miles under my belt while the weathers still fairly decent.

I was lucky enough to drive in both of these cars over the weekend.

The first is a brand new 5litre Supercharged Jaguar XFR (it was red but I couldn't find a decent pic of a red one) the second is of course an Aston Martin DB9. But which is best? There's only one way to find out. FIGHT!!!

By fight I of course mean Poll.

I know which one I think is best but I don't want to influence the vote. I'll give my vote at a later date.

Yorkshire wildlife park

went to Yorkshire wildlife park at the weekend (near Doncaster), had a great day.

They have about 15 lions in 3 prides, you may have seen them on the news, rescued from cages in a Romanian zoo.

Anyone living nearby should go and support them, we tend to have interesting stuff in Doncaster and then no one goes and they shut down !

I would have liked bigger enclosures for the lions, but its not too bad, reasonable size, much better than the cages thats for sure!

check out the pics, could almost be the Serengeti eh?

they got Meercats too ! impossibly cute little creatures, I may get one as a pet!

Czech Republic MotoGP

Can't wait for Sunday’s Czech Republic MotoGP race in Brno. Not least to hear the details of the expected announcement that Rossi is off to Ducati, to be replaced at Yamaha by Spies. Given that Spies has made an impressive and intelligent start to his MotoGP career I expect him to keep gorgeous george honest. Anyone agree?
